Protection rating, wet areas, style: our comprehensive guide to choosing the right IP44 light fixture for your bathroom.
Not all bathrooms are alike, but all share the same constraint: humidity. Choosing an unsuitable light fixture means risking premature failure, or even an electrical hazard.
The IP (Ingress Protection) rating indicates a light fixture's resistance to dust and water. For a bathroom, simply remember: the closer the fixture is to a water zone (shower, bathtub), the higher the rating should be.
A minimum IP44 rating is recommended for the entire bathroom, including areas away from the shower: this level resists occasional water splashes. This is the case for the Halo White IP44 Wall Light and the Halo White IP44 Ceiling Light, suitable for standard bathroom use.

In areas directly exposed to splashes or the shower itself, an IP65 rating is better, as it resists direct water jets. If you are unsure about the exact placement, an IP44 model outside the direct wet zone and a more protected model near the shower remains the safest combination.
A wall light above the mirror effectively illuminates the face for preparation, while a ceiling light provides general room lighting. Ideally, combine both rather than relying on a single source.
A neutral to slightly warm light, between 3000 and 4000 K, offers a good compromise between comfort and precision in front of the mirror, without giving the room too cold or too yellow a rendering.
Can a non-IP44 light fixture be installed in a bathroom?
It is not recommended, even far from water: the ambient humidity of the room can eventually damage an unprotected light fixture.
Do I need an electrician to install a bathroom light fixture?
It is recommended, particularly to comply with regulatory safety zones around the shower and bathtub.
Is an IP65 light fixture also suitable elsewhere in the house?
Yes, an IP65 works everywhere, including outdoors; it is simply more protected than necessary outside wet areas.
IP44 minimum everywhere, IP65 near the shower, and a wall light + ceiling light combination for complete lighting. Discover our selection of bathroom light fixtures.
