The floor lamp plugs into a wall socket and switches on with a foot switch on the cable. It can be placed behind an armchair or in the corner of a room, with no installation required.

A soft, dry cloth is sufficient. Disconnect the power and allow the bulb to cool before handling, and avoid abrasive products.
